Generation iY

Shaping the Students Born Since 1990

Ten years ago, sociologists were elated with their findings on Generation Y.  Teen pregnancy had dropped.  Drug abuse was lower than their parents.  Violent crime was down and civic involvement was up.  Today, however, the stats have changed.  We call the kids born since 1990: Generation iY, due to the impact of iPods, iPhones, iChat, iTunes, iMovies and the fact that life for them is pretty much about “i”.

The 2010 National Leadership Forum will provide fresh insights into these young students who are gracing the campuses of middle school, high school and college.

Some of the questions we will address…

  1. Has their exposure to technology lowered the emotional intelligence of this generation?
  2. What can be done about their postponed launch into adulthood at ages 26-28?
  3. Is the early affirmation kids receive from adults causing narcissism and depression for them later on?
  4. Has the increased time playing video games lowered their grades in school?
  5. Does their heavy access to social media (Facebook, texts, Twitter, etc.) impede or accelerate their development of mature relational skills?
  6. Have our dated teaching methods resulted in a disconnect between faculty and students?
  7. Do the lies we adults (especially parents) tell our kids actually return to haunt them in the form of anger and disillusionment?

This Forum is targeted for educators, administrators, executive youth workers, employers of young adults, and non-profit leaders who work with students.

Bring your team and gain a plan to return home and equip this generation to be mature, healthy, and responsible leaders wherever their adult life takes them.
